Sunrise Training

Like I mentioned before, some days start with a bang!  When you are lucky enough to get a call from Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim, inviting you to morning training to the “outdoor Jung Suwon“, you know you are in for a treat!

First, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim had us  work with the bong, or long staff, first.  That’s always my favorite thing to do! We did some basic techniques, followed by bong forms and twirling.  Then even some basic bong sparring!  I love hearing the sound of the staff hitting against another staff.  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim explains that first we need to know our techniques without any weapons, and know them well.  That is what we train at Jung Suwon for, although sometimes we do get to use weapons in the DoJang.  Then, when we get a weapon in our hands, it’s only an extension of ourselves, not something seperate.

Then Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim asked us to perform a series of ancient Ki energy movements, and there is nothing quite like welcoming the morning sun when performing soft Ki energy movements!  We had done them many many times at Jung Suwon, but to apply them in the outdoors really took us to a new level!

After morning training, I felt full of energy the entire day, and I mean energy you can’t get from coffee!  After watching and feeling the sun rise and taking in that power, as directed by Great Grandmaster Kim, your day is bound to be most outstanding!
